Hey there! I'm Bassel, a student, researcher, tutor, and aspiring doctor. I was born and raised in Montreal before immigrating to California in middle school. I grew up speaking English and French but later developed a passion for learning more languages, including Japanese.
I try to find joy in everything I do, whether it's learning, playing sports, or dealing with everyday frustrations. Growing up bilingual gave me an appreciation for different cultures, though as my language skills faded, I felt more disconnected from my own. That’s made me more interested in reconnecting with my background and appreciating it in my own way.
“The difference between the novice and the master is that the master has failed more times than the novice has tried.”

I feel like time is limited, so I try to experience and learn as much as I can. That’s led me to pick up different skills, from playing cello and piano to drawing and working on random projects. Whatever I’m doing, I just want to keep growing and make the most of it.
Currently a senior studying Biochemistry (3.9 GPA). Recognized on the Dean's Honors List for 8 quarters,
I have developed a strong background in organic chemistry, biology, and biochemistry. Techniques I’ve
worked with include advanced spectroscopy (NMR), modeling gene vectors, and various chromatography methods.
At UCLA, I conducted research in the Kwon Lab Research Group, contributing to the total synthesis of
natural organic products. My work focused on optimizing key reaction steps while utilizing NMR spectroscopy
and column chromatography for purification and structural verification.
Working at Dr. Flor Geola’s Endocrinology practice in Los Angeles has given me hands-on experience in patient care and clinic operations. I manage patient intake, handle medical charts and files, coordinate appointments, and assist with prescription management. This role has strengthened my organizational skills and reinforced my commitment to efficient, patient-centered healthcare.
Volunteering at Cedars-Sinai has allowed me to support nurses and patients, assisting with daily tasks to improve patient care and hospital efficiency. This experience has strengthened my understanding of healthcare and reinforced my commitment to patient-centered service.
I studied abroad at Tohoku University, where I conducted research in the Ohashi Biology
Lab, focusing on protein interactions under stress conditions. During this time, I developed
skills in fluorescence microscopy and molecular biology while gaining hands-on experience in an advanced research setting.
Outside the lab, immersing myself in Japanese culture deepened my language proficiency and
broadened my global perspective. I also had the opportunity to present my research at the university’s
student conference, further refining my ability to communicate scientific ideas in an international setting.
Graduated valedictorian with a 5.01 GPA. I also swam competitively throughout high school, balancing athletics with challenging academics. Additionally, I performed cello for the orchestra and participated in Model United Nations.
